I would LOVE a vehicle like this… it makes my nomadic heart smile.

“The vibe at Woodstock was an expression of the times, energized by repugnance for a senseless war and for the entrenched discrimination of the establishment, a spirited but nonviolent counterculture was sweeping the country.” -Joel Rosenman 1969
Where’s our revolution Woodstock?
“I’m not an expert on the places I visit. I’m not an authority. I’m a visitor, a traveler, an enthusiast. Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart, but that’s ok. The journey changes you, it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you and hopefully you leave something good behind.” ~Anthony Bourdain

Kona Grill
I had received a special offer in the mail a few weeks ago for a free entree at Kona Grill, and tonight Abbie and I decided to put it to good use.
Wait: We arrived at 6:00 with no reservation and we were seated after about a twenty minute walk around the bookstore located next door. There were a few frustrated clients that turned in their buzzers and left before they could be seated, but I believe Kona had reserved a large portion of the restaurant for a party and were simply short on seating.
Environment: The restaurant had an Western/Eastern theme with a sushi bar, large fish tank, and typical indoor booth, or outdoor porch seating. The dress was anywhere from casual jeans and t-shirts to prom dresses and suits.
Order:
Abbie:
-Edamame ~ Salted
-Chicken Satay ~ With cabbage slaw & sweet hoisin dipping sauce.
Me:
-Onion Strings ~ Thinly sliced, lightly breaded and piled high. Served w/ pineapple chipotle ketchup & spicy mustard dipping sauce.
-Macadamia Nut Chicken ~Signature dish is served w/ shoyu-cream sauce, pineapple-papaya marmalade, white cheddar mashed potatoes & wok tossed vegetables.
Price Range: Our total came to about fifty dollars between the two of us & for poor college students I give it a $$$ out of $$$$.
Review: Over all we were both satisfied with the quality of both of our meals, although for the price seemed a bit much. The edamame came in a small salted bowl, pretty typical of any ethnic restaurant. The six strips of Satay were well presented on top of a slaw. It had a good spicy kick to it that left my more spice sensitive friend needing a refill on her water every few minutes. The Onion strings came in abundance and neither of us could finish them. Unfortunately, they were lukewarm and the dipping sauces were only sub par. The presentation was great for the Macadamia Nut Chicken, and the mix of the nut, marmalade, and shoyu sauce was quite unique. The side was pretty typical of wok veggies consisting of bok choy, celery, & zucchini. Although they were slightly bland it was a nice addition to the flavorful main course, and complimented it well.
Service: This is where we had the biggest issue. The waitress was very inattentive, leaving us for about 20 minutes before taking our order, and then never bothered to ask us if everything was ok once our food was served. She never properly introduced herself, and was always behind on drink refills. This left us frustrated and honestly ruined the overall experience.
Overall: [ C ] The food was decent but the menu selection seemed much more limited than expected and the overall prices were pretty steep. The waitress situation was very disappointing and left a sour taste in our mouths throughout our entire visit. Probably won’t be rushing back, but I ever find myself there again will most likely attempt the sushi.
